Draycote weekly Fishing Report w/e Sunday 5th July 2015

Draycote Fishing Report w/e Sunday 5th July 2015.

Cor blimey, what a scorcher! The summer seems to have finally arrived. (How long will it last?) It’s been a very warm week that has varied from sometimes blustery conditions to flat calms. The heat coupled with the bright sunshine, doesn’t seem to have slowed the fishing down one bit though, indeed, on what was recorded as the warmest July day ever, the rod average was still a cracking 3.4

The overall rod average this week has been 3.1. With good bags of fish being caught everywhere, it’s difficult to say where not to fish. However the best of the fishing still seems to be for bank anglers,  down in the corn field, or for the boats it’s open water, over the shoals and along the edges of the wind lanes. The area around the Aerators is also worth a try.

Practically every method seems to be working at one time or another. A number of anglers have chosen to stick to dry flies this week and have had some cracking sport, drifting in open water and casting blind. Anglers have reported fish just appearing out of nowhere and smashing into the point fly, and then tearing of into the distance performing a number of leaps and cartwheels along the way.

Whilst dries are in form, buzzers, Dawl Bach’s and crunchers are still working just as well. Lures such as Damsels, olive snakes and Humungus boobies are also accounting for some good fish.

Kevin Rees, one of our season ticket holders, visited Draycote twice this week. On his first visit he caught 16 fish from the bank on buzzers, on what was a very warm and sunny day. On his second visit he had 3 cracking fish for 12lbs.

One of our other season ticket holders, Tony Broadway, fishing on Tuesday from the bank, also caught 16 fish, 6 of which weighed in at 20lbs.

Charlie Miller, fishing on Thursday, may have only caught one, but it did weigh 7lb 6oz.

It was nice to see Mark Sturgess again, who was here on Friday, catching a total of 30 fish, 8 of which weighed in at 31lb 12oz.

But last, and by no means least, was season ticket holder Sean Hanlon , also fishing on Friday. Sean was very pleased with all his fish, except for one, which ran off with his flies, all of his fly line and all the backing. Oops!
